Advanced Metrology and 3D Imaging are emerging technologies that will be the foundation for a new cycle of economic prosperity. The use of 3D Imaging in manufacturing requires a highly skilled workforce. 3D Imaging combines information technology and advanced measurement systems to enable significant gains in manufacturing controls and automation.An improved technology infrastructure will build an innovation base that will be critically important to 21st century manufacturers. It has proven value in niche applications and is at the threshold of wide scale implementation. M-7 is deeply involved in this technology and is a National Test Bed for 3D Imaging system performance, collaborating with the National Institute of Standards and Technology and providing leadership to the ASTM Standards Committee (E57) on 3D Imaging Systems. M-7 is currently helping to define the next phase of the technology’s growth in the manufacturing sector. The technology will have widespread economic impact in both domestic and international markets.
